Veneto, Zaia sends a message to Meloni: "A list with my name on it will bring in votes."

Luca Zaia will not be able to run for a third term in Veneto , due to Forza Italia 's opposition. But the governor still wants to contribute to the center-right 's victory in the region, especially after Matteo Salvini 's proposal to create a " Zaia list ." The president of Veneto himself explains the potential advantages: "I believe it is undeniable that my list could bring advantages to the center-right," Zaia explained to Il Corriere della Sera. "I wouldn't want anyone to see the list as an act of narcissism or megalomania. In reality, I have always had a civic list. Not a structure, not a party. This way, we could recover voters who don't vote or who wouldn't belong to us : I remember that in 2020, the center-left halved its votes, thanks in part to my list."

And third place isn't far off."As an administrator," Zaia continued to Il Corriere, "I want to point out a few things. Starting with the Veneto electoral law: from 40 to 60%, 30 out of 50 councilors are in the majority ; below 40%, even fewer. Above 60%, proportional representation kicks in : that's why today, with 78%, my majority is 43 out of 50 councilors. Veneto needs a full mandate. A president can be elected even with 40%. There will always be someone who will say: 6 out of 10 didn't vote for you."
